European Commissioner Theresa Ribera said that the EU will not weaken its laws and principles, despite the criticism of US President Donald Trump. She stressed the importance of protecting European values against the background of the unpredictable policy of the American administration.

Trump and his team accuse the EU of «taxing» American technology companies through fines, as well as threatening duties on steel, automobiles and pharmaceuticals. The European Commission is ready for tough retaliatory measures.

Ribera, responsible for antitrust investigations and multibillion-dollar mergers, reaffirmed the EU's commitment to the 2030 climate goals. She stressed that legal stability remains a key priority, despite external challenges.

Next month, the EU will announce decisions on Apple and Meta (recognized as an extremist organization and banned in Russia), where fines of up to 10% of global turnover are possible for violating the Digital Markets Act. Ribera assured that the decisions will be based on facts.  The Commission also continues to investigate the activities of Elon Musk's platform for possible violations.

Against the background of these events, EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic was preparing for negotiations in the United States. The EU remains steadfast in defending its norms and democratic principles in the face of external pressure.
