Former Prime Minister of Denmark and Chief Executive of Save the Children International, Helle Thorning-Schmidt castigated the Australian nation for the reduction of its foreign assistance budget at its lowest point.

Thorning-Schmidt Told Josh Frydenberg, minister of Turnbull government, that the Australia should be a world leader to help the development of every nation. However, Frydenberg mentioned that the continent is at the 12th rank among the biggest per capita spender pertaining to foreign assistance for poor countries.

In addition to it, the country’s expenditure for overseas aid is worth $3.8 billion dated 2016 till 2017 which made up the 0.22 percent of its gross domestic product.

There were reports that left-right political sides pledge to allocate 0.5 percent of the GDP to international relations.

The 50-year old leader of centre-left parties further portrayed Australia as a community characterized by 'generosity of spirit' following the statement of the Australian politician about budgetary constraints.
