Inequality and poverty rates in the UK are expected to get worse within a five year-period as the negative effects of welfare cuts starts manifesting and earning levels start slowing down. This particular analysis comes merely a week before Chancellor Philip Hammond’s scheduled spring budget announcement and is expected to increase government pressure with regards to economic easing as the dismal state of the sterling pound triggers an increase in fuel and food prices. UK’s inequality issue was recently discussed by UK politicians after the Brexit vote exposed a lot of UK citizens suffering the consequences of the said political vote. Real wage earnings in 2021 are expected to be a lot lower than 2008’s all-time low, the longest period of wage stagnation within the country for over 70 years.
